The Company. Power Technology was founded in 1992 by Dr. Paul F. Titchener. Power Technology’s goal is to leverage the company’s extensive expertise in advanced DSP and PC technology to become a leading supplier of audio signal processing products and software. By combining cutting-edge DSP technology, and state of the art graphical human interface concepts with low cost PC based Internet friendly hardware designs, Power Technology has developed affordable products that set new standards for audio quality and ease of use. In-house capabilities also includes full CAD based mechanical design and prototyping facilities. Product manufacturing is performed by highly skilled contractors in nearby Silicon Valley in San Jose, California.

The Founder

Paul F. Titchener received his Bachelors of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Cincinnati in 1978, graduating Magnum Cum Laude. He then pursued graduate studios at Stanford University , receiving a Master of Science degree in 1980 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1984. His graduate studios concentrated in the area of Digital Signal Processing (DSP), and his thesis advisor was Dr. Bernard Widrow, who is regarded as one of the primary contributors to the development of advanced DSP techniques.

In 1984 Dr. Titchener and a partner founded a technology group that began developing an innovative new software design tool called a Signal Processing Work-system (SPW). The patented SPW tool uses a high level graphic design style to significantly aid the design of complex electronic system such as digital telecommunication, modems, cellular telephones, cardiac pacemakers and HDTV systems. The groundbreaking SPW tool was brought to the market with Comdisco Systems in 1987, and has become the leading DSP design tool. With 80% market share and worldwide sales exceeding $150 million to date. Dr. Titchener played a lead role as the company grew to 130 employees, and was the Vice President of Technology when he reduced his status to consulting role with Comdisco in 1992.

Dr. Titchener has many years of experience in analog, digital and software based system design. He holds several patents in the areas of electronic instrumentation and signal processing and has published and presented a variety of technical papers on advanced applications of electronic software systems.

  • The Products

Power Technology introduced the DSP•FX product which makes use of cutting edge 32-bit floating point DSP technology, coupled with an innovative PC based graphical control interface. DSP•FX has been well received by noted record producers, engineers, and music industry journalist, with reactions such as "I’ve never heard effects that sounded so clean" and "this is the future of signal audio processing." DSP•FX also uses innovative new marketing plan that allows users to use the Internet to both evaluate new software modules and upgrade their current system.

Additional DSP•FX products are under development that will continue to leverage DSP, PC and Internet technologies, providing breakthrough features and value for customers. Power Technology has also applied its expertise to computer based instrumentation systems, designing and manufacturing a series of high performance testing tools that are currently being used by the leading NASCAR Winston Cup, Indy and NHRA Pro Stock teams.

    The Principals

The evolution of DSP•FX was directed primarily by Paul Titchener and Mark Kaplan, VP of Software Development. Over an 8 year period beginning with the project’s inception, Mr. Kaplan was a major contributor to the graphic oriented software area of the SPW product.
